Archivists' Day: May 1, 2000

from queenB

Well, to start at the beginning... I want to thank Darqstar for her wonderful Shifting Sands and Alara for continuing with the site Darqstar started all those years ago. Shifting Sands and Darqstar really seemed to drag me into this genre... hook, line and sinker with the great variety of stories and messageboards. And I have her to blame... er, thank for much of that. :)

I'd also like to thank Northlight for archiving me at her wonderful page when I first started writing and for being such a wonderful person and writer. You never cease to bring a smile to my face. Luba Kmetyk is not only one of the best writers around but Fonts of Wisdom is one of my favorite places on the 'net to visit. Luba works hard to bring us fresh, quality fanfic as often as possible and really deserves a big round of applause for all she does.

Tangerine has done a wonderful job pulling together an archive of two of my favorite characters, Angel and Psylocke, really giving them a wonderful representation and a place for fans like me to get their fix. Mandy Lever also deserves praise for the wonderful job she did of taking the GenX mantle after Ficworld went down. I'm sorry to hear you're leaving it behind, but I hope you will be well in the future and I just know you'll succeed in whatever you put your mind to. I'd also like to thank a newer archivist, Mona, for setting up and gathering all the wonderful Dreaming and Sandman stories she has. It was an archive that I had been wishing someone would build for a long while and the presentation is just so wonderful. Kudos to all of you.

I also have to thank both Alykat and Ascian for not only the wonderful stories and images they have on their sites but for constantly inspiring me to make my own sites better and learn new things. You guys are Awesome with a capital A! You really give the rest of us something to aspire to. Thanks also to Kaylee who came up with a great concept in her Itty Bitty Archives. I was just lucky enough to eventually snag them from her. Even though she's taken a step back... she continues to come up with inventive ideas for other archives with an enthusiasm that is definitely contagious.

I want to thank Kielle... now I know that C-FAN technically isn't an archive... but she does have some archives so this is her day, too. Heck, every day should be Kielle day! Ahem, well, Kielle's just a wonder. Every one of sites is just fabulously designed and she works hard to make pages with subject matter that get us fired up about our "hobby." I myself can say that if it wasn't for her fine example and encouragement, I wouldn't be as active with archival as I am now. You rock, K!

But wow... I could sit her all day thanking all the people who run fabulous archives (Alicia McKenzie, Indigo, Alara Rogers, Missy Red, and so many others). You all deserve a pat on the back. You guys are wonderful. So if you run an archive today… take some time to kick back and congratulate yourself. And if anyone hassles you about slacking off... just tell 'em queenB gave you permission. *grin*
