All The Saints In
Heaven
(PG)
Madelyne is given a
choice by an unexpected visitor. My very first Maddie-fic--'Ghost'-Maddie as she reappeared in X-Man, that is to say. With the exception of 'Suncross', I've never written the original Maddie, but I find her later incarnation to be a tragic, compelling figure. Plus it's just fun trying to write mother-son bonding...;)
And They Shall Have Stars...
(PG)
On the morning of a memorial service for X-Force, Siryn steels herself to face the day. Just a very tiny little fic; it was originally intended to be the first part of one that would have been considerably longer, but Duey convinced me it could stand on its own, and it really does. It felt very strange to be posting something this short, though, I must admit.
Black Day
(PG)
Rachel Summers, the Mother Askani, has succeeded in
bringing her baby brother forward to the thirty-eighth century to save his
life. But as time runs out for the Askani Sisterhood, she must make a
desperate decision with long-lasting impact on little Nathan's future--and her
own past. One of my earlier short stories, and still one of my favorites. Did Rachel understand what she was doing when she ordered baby Nate cloned? She knew who Stryfe was, what he had done--so how did she justify it to herself?
Expatriates
(PG-13)
A taxi driver's mix-up leads Pete Wisdom to discover magic in a very unexpected place. A crossover with 'Aria', which is a wonderful urban fantasy comic that I highly recommend to anyone interested in that sort of thing. This story was written for Luba Kmetyk, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Fonts of Wisdom.
Fade To Black
(PG)
Madelyne's last goodbye as the alternate Jean Grey takes
her place... The Counter-X X-Man writer needs a good boot to the head. What a horrible thing to do to a character! ::growls:: This was my attempt to give Maddie a little dignity at the end.
Fallen Angels
(R)
In a world where Cable never existed, the legendary
mercenary known as Domino lives a subtly different life. Written for Morrioghan's 'What if Cable never existed?' challenge. My mind went in a very weird direction for this challenge, let's just leave it at that. ;) A very well-deserved R, not just for the language, violence, and sexual content, but for some fairly disturbing elements, as well.
I was fortunate enough to be visiting Alicia while she was working on this story, which allowed me to witness the full force of Alicia's talent as this story took shape. Perhaps that is why I have a particular fondness for it. That, or the fact that it is incredibly well-written. :) ~JenMorrioghan
Icons
(PG)
Centuries in the future, a teacher bears witness as the
legacy of the X-Men is destroyed. This is a answer to three challenges ('Blow Me Away', 'Allegory' and 'Storyteller's'), set in a world that's of my own creation, taking the 'Xavier Collective' mentioned once in Marvel canon and telling a story that was inspired in large part by the destruction and damage suffered by heritage sites in Kosovo and Serbia during the UN campaign there. The dedication at the beginning of the story is as important to me as the story itself; please read it, and take it to heart.
This is one of Alicia's most powerful stories, and one of my personal favorites. I really cannot recommend it highly enough. If you read only one story on this archive, read this one. :) ~JenMorrioghan
L'Anima Del
Libro
(G)
A young woman enjoys
her unique mutant gift. Wish-fufillment. Definitely. That's all I'll say about this. :)
Absolutely lovely - and I'm not just saying this because I want this ability. :) Seriously, this is one of my all-time favorite TCP stories. It truly captures the spirit of the genre. ~JenMorrioghan
Mockingbird
(G)
Jean reflects on her life as 'Redd' and the second chance
she and Scott have been given with Nathan. My first story written from Jean's perspective; her relationship with Nathan isn't one that gets explored very often in a positive sense. I've wound up setting something of a trend for myself, given the number of Nathan and Jean stories I've written and am still writing.
Never Tell Me The
Odds
(PG-13)
Logan is captured
by people who are very interested in something in his mind. But why--and why
can't he remember? And what does Cable have to do with it? A very different sort of story for me; a mystery, set sometime after Fatal Attractions (and definitely not canonical). More of a Logan-story, although Cable plays a sizeable and vital supporting role.
This is a fantastic story that will keep you guessing until the very end! ~JenMorrioghan
Night Owls, Paternal Instincts, And
Questions Better Left Unasked
(PG)
Scott decides that it's time to have 'The Talk' with
Domino. Pure comedic fluff; an excuse to write Dom being sweetly sadistic.
Only Candlelight
(PG)
A minister planning a candelight vigil against
anti-mutant violence pits her faith against threats, and what results is an
illuminating experience. Written for the Faces of Hate challenge on OTL. I'd wanted to write something positive very badly, and found a great deal of inspiration in my own life (and family :).
This one will give you chills and hope. IMHO it is one of Alicia's best! ~JenMorrioghan
Replay
(PG-13)
The night when Malcolm and Randall were killed is one of
Bishop's most painful memories, but when Cable finds him running that
particular Danger Room program yet again, he isn't shy about voicing his
opinion on the matter. Yet another Danger Room story! I think I'm overly attached to that setting, but the ideas, they just keep coming. In this instance, though, I thought someone needed to talk to Bishop about what he did in his spare time.
The Riddle Of
Steel
(PG)
Life - and Cable -
through the eyes of Apocalypse. Written as a test run for the Paladin trilogy, to see if I could get inside Nur's head. Not a very pleasant place to be, I must admit.
Sparring
(PG-13)
Staying at the mansion just after the Phalanx Covenant,
Angelo watches Cable pushing his limits in a lethal Danger Room program, and
afterwards finds himself being 'tested'. I like throwing Cable into a fic with a character he's never interacted with on panel, and he and Angelo worked very well together, here. Not surprising, given the similarities in their backgrounds. This was written for Dyce, and if I could reassure myself that my lack of knowledge of GenX after about issue #25 wasn't a complete handicap, I might write more.
When Flowers Just Don't Cut
It
(PG)
After nearly killing
Cable and Domino while under Sebastian Shaw's control, X-Force tries to think
of some way to say they're sorry. One of my early short stories, hopefully still worth a couple of laughs.
